Kestryl Oil - Motor Oil Bottle

MOTOR OIL BOTTLE

CONCEPT

Kestryl Motor Oil or Kestryl Oil is an automotive fluid production company. Their mission is in helping create specialized formulas to super charge your engine like never seen before. It’s automotive fluid line of products are used to help revitalize and restore your vehicles engine to its up most potential (and sometimes, to surpass that potential).

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The aforementioned Kestryl Motor Oil is a fictional company that I created for the purposes of my senior thesis project. In the initial brainstorming session, I felt a lot of what was being presented around me was very typical in terms of branding projects, many were restaurants or environmentally friendly companies. I had two ideas, a self-branding project (which was highly discouraged) and a parody branding project.

I landed on the concept of Kestryl Motor Oil after seeing an ad for Castrol Oil, which reminded me of the word Kestrel (a small looking bird of prey). It fit perfectly with this weird idea of my love of birds; being the most common and nearly only creatures that can fly. This fit in with the open road, being top of the food chain (Alpha predator), and slowly the pieces of relation for this all came together.  The parody is not of Castrol Oil but of the project itself, being something that was quite the opposite of the other projects in the brainstorming session.

KESTRYL MOTOR OIL - Infomercial

The most important piece for the project (besides the logo) I feel is the video advertisement I created for it.  It was the perfect opportunity to express this branding parody’s full features.  With no budget, digital camera, or any type of car to match what my imagination thought of, I turned to my knowledge of “machinima” making.  By using GTA V as the base engine and “set”, the sandbox video game allowed for a number of fun, crazy, and otherwise dangerous ideas that allowed me to as parody “As Seen on TV” commercials.
