NYC STREET SERIES

Project Overview

This project started off as a combination of two events.

The first was a vague project prompt at a previous job and the second was a t-shirt design contest I entered. The two events combined and inspired this “unoriginal” concept of parodying everyday NYC “things”. Growing up in New York City, certain items, environments, and vibes give themselves their own life. The set of designs (which is continually being added too) was to reflect this.

I started with the Subway and some of the everyday objects associated with it.  The designs are grouped in sets of three to allow for the different variants of the objects themselves. These everyday things breathe life into what we call NYC.  “Wet Paint” signs, “Metrocards” on the floor, the “Tokens” myself and others will still recognized. Everyday objects that are synonymous with the Subway.  As much as the average New Yorker complains about the MTA, it’s still the veins of the city and it connects us to all the different parts of its body. Regardless, I still wanted to poke fun at it, parody it, and laugh “with” it. Again, parodying New York is nothing new, but I just wanted to add my touch to it.

If you like any of these designs, they are all available for purchase as T-shirts and a variety of other objects at my Teepublic storefront. A print on demand website that really likes to put stuff on sale!
